Find Your Place in the Sun is one of my truly “latest compositions” (there is also a band version with some different lyrics). Influenced by Neil Young and Bob Dylan, the song was inspired by my son Austen (who has the same birthday as I do [we are both Cancers]). The song was composed after a break-up with his then girlfriend — and he sought me out during a sojourn in South Africa. Recording and production were again driven by Robert Martin who has also given the tune quite a vocal treatment. (Robert has sung with Stevie Nicks and the late Etta James, and, for the late Frank Zappa). The band version of Find Your Place in the Sun— which you will find on most music services — has a somewhat “darker” feel — that makes the chorus all the more poignant. After multiple listens to both versions — I realized that I also composed this song for me.
